Baltimore Residents Participate in Annual Spring Cleanup and Day of Service

BALTIMORE — On Saturday, April 25, Baltimore residents are coming together for the Annual Spring Cleanup and Day of Service, organized by Mayor Brandon Scott.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., encouraging registered volunteers, community organizations, and local groups to enhance the beauty of neighborhoods throughout Baltimore.

Registration for the cleanup took place from March 16 to April 18, allowing participants to prepare for the day’s activities.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Transportation, and the Office of Community Affairs. Mayor Scott expressed his enthusiasm for the cleanup, emphasizing its importance in fostering community pride.

Matthew Garbark, the Director of Public Works, highlighted the initiative's significance in strengthening the relationship between residents and city agencies, while also improving local conditions.

Participants will engage in various cleanup activities across the city, with DPW crews set to collect bagged debris after the event concludes at 1 p.m. However, it is important to note that bulk trash collection is not part of this cleanup.

In addition to neighborhood enhancement, the cleanup offers incentives for participants. Students in grades 3 through 12 can earn up to four service-learning hours, while registered volunteers may be eligible for a stormwater fee credit of up to $30 per year.

City officials emphasize that this annual cleanup reflects a commitment to fostering cleaner and healthier neighborhoods through community engagement and collaboration.
