BALTIMORE — Mayor Brandon M. Scott has announced the launch of the second annual Charm City Cleanup, a comprehensive 24-week initiative dedicated to improving the cleanliness and quality of life in neighborhoods throughout Baltimore.
This year's effort will span all city council districts, focusing on enhancing public spaces and fostering community engagement. The initiative is supported by a collaborative partnership among various city agencies, organizations, and local residents, aiming to create cleaner and safer neighborhoods.
“This is one of the largest citywide cleaning initiatives in history, and I’m proud that we’re bringing it back for the second year in a row,” Mayor Scott stated. He emphasized the importance of addressing fundamental issues alongside ongoing challenges such as public safety and vacant properties.
Last year's inaugural Charm City Cleanup, which lasted 17 weeks, successfully addressed 17 neighborhood clusters. This year, the program is set to expand its reach, targeting 24 clusters over the full 24-week period.
The cleanup initiative follows the completion of the mayor's 90-day Spring Sprint, which concluded on July 11. During the Spring Sprint, significant progress was made, including resurfacing 22.9 miles of roads, filling 31,632 potholes, and removing over 5,000 instances of graffiti.
City officials are optimistic that this year's Charm City Cleanup will build on the successes of the previous year, further enhancing the quality of life for Baltimore residents.
