Baltimore Schools CEO Santelises Appointed Superintendent-in-Residence at Yale

BALTIMORE, Md. — Sonja Brookins Santelises, the CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools, has been appointed as the superintendent-in-residence at The Broad Center at Yale School of Management, according to a statement released by the school system on Friday.

While taking on this new part-time and flexible role, Santelises will maintain her position as CEO of the school system until the end of the current academic year. The school system has initiated a search for her successor.

In her new capacity, Santelises will provide mentorship to mid-career and senior education leaders through The Broad Center’s master's degree and fellowship programs. Her responsibilities will include facilitating content, teaching within the Master’s in Public Education Management program, and guiding individuals preparing for district leadership roles.

Kerwin K. Charles, dean of Yale’s School of Management, praised Santelises, stating, “Sonja has worked tirelessly to craft meaningful curricula, make her district’s facilities more sustainable, modernize vocational training, and respond to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. I am delighted that The Broad Center’s community of committed education leaders will be able to learn from her years of experience and benefit from her guidance.”
