Baltimore Smoke Shop Raided; Illegal Cannabis, Ghost Gun Seized

The Baltimore City Sheriff's Office has reported the seizure of a significant quantity of unlicensed THC products, drugs, and a ghost gun from a smoke shop in East Baltimore. This operation took place at VIP Smoke Shop, located in the 400 block of N. Highland Avenue, where one of the employees was a minor.

An undercover investigation commenced when a deputy sheriff purchased a package of suspected cannabis from the shop on June 8. Subsequent testing revealed that the cannabis exceeded the legal THC limits set by Maryland law and was being sold without the necessary state licensing.

Following the undercover purchase, deputies executed a search warrant at the smoke shop on June 10. During the search, they discovered two individuals behind the counter, including a 17-year-old employee. Authorities located a ghost gun and various drugs within a backpack that was easily accessible to the underage employee.

As a result of the serious nature of the offenses, the juvenile employee was charged as an adult after discussions with the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office. Charges against the minor include possession of a firearm by a person under 21, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of cannabis with intent to distribute, and the unlawful sale of cannabis products. The second employee also faces charges related to possession with intent to distribute cannabis and violations concerning the illegal sale of cannabis.

In a statement, officials emphasized their commitment to protecting neighborhoods and ensuring compliance with legal standards among businesses. "Our goal is simple: protect neighborhoods, protect consumers, and ensure businesses follow the law," stated a spokesperson.
