The brother of Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell has been charged with murder following the death of their mother, Nateal Campbell, in Atlanta.

Police conducted a welfare check at a residence where they discovered the 71-year-old unresponsive. According to arrest warrants, Nateal Campbell suffered a fatal injury, with evidence indicating that her throat had been cut. Authorities also reported that Ciarre Campbell was found in possession of a knife at the scene.

Ciarre Campbell was taken into custody and booked at the Fulton County Jail. He is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and murder, with an initial court hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning. There are currently no legal representatives listed in online court records who could provide comments regarding the charges.

In the wake of this tragedy, the Campbell family released a statement expressing their profound grief and requesting privacy during this difficult time. They shared their sorrow over the loss of their matriarch, stating, “We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell. While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

Calais Campbell, who is entering his 19th NFL season, signed a one-year contract worth $5.5 million with the Ravens in April. The 39-year-old has been recognized as a first-team AP All-Pro and has made six Pro Bowl appearances throughout his career, which began with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008.
