PIKESVILLE, Md. — A public transit bus was involved in a serious accident on Wednesday evening, injuring more than 30 individuals after it collided with several vehicles and ultimately crashed into a building.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. ET in Pikesville, a community located just northwest of Baltimore.
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, the Maryland Transit Administration bus lost control after striking multiple vehicles, leading to the collision with a nearby building. In total, 12 vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash, with one vehicle overturning during the incident.
The bus driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. In addition, 36 other individuals were transported to local hospitals for their injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore expressed his concern for those affected, stating he is closely monitoring the situation. He praised first responders for their quick action in addressing the emergency and ensuring the safety of the community.
