Bus Collision with Building in Pikesville Injures 33

A bus collided with a building in Pikesville, Maryland, on July 8, resulting in injuries to 33 people and significant damage. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road, an area just outside Baltimore City.

According to Baltimore County Fire Department officials, the bus crashed into the corner of a building housing a FedEx Office print and ship center, scattering debris across the street and sidewalk. Several other vehicles were also involved, with one car reportedly flipped over.

Fire Chief Joseph Dixon described the scene as "more like a war scene," highlighting the chaos that ensued. The crash prompted the declaration of a second-alarm mass casualty event, as first responders worked to assist those injured.

Emergency crews extricated one individual trapped inside the bus and another trapped in a vehicle. A critical patient was freed by 6:47 p.m., and a total of 33 individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical attention. While most injuries were minor, at least one person required airlifting from the scene.

Over 100 first responders participated in the emergency response, addressing not only the injuries but also downed wires resulting from the crash. Maryland Route 140 on Reisterstown Road was closed to traffic and reopened at approximately 3:05 a.m. on July 9.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to gather details about the incident. Maryland Governor Wes Moore expressed his concern for those affected and praised the quick actions of first responders, stating that he is in close coordination with local officials to provide necessary support.
