Bus Crash in Pikesville Leaves 33 Injured, Mass Casualty Incident Declared

PIKESVILLE, Md. — A serious accident involving an MTA bus and a building in Pikesville has resulted in a mass casualty incident, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The crash occurred in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road, injuring a total of 33 individuals. Among the injured, two people are reported to be in critical condition. One of the critically injured individuals was airlifted to Shock Trauma by the Maryland State Police.

Yehoshya Bier, a personal injury attorney who works nearby, described the scene as unprecedented in his experience. He noted that he often witnesses accidents at the intersection of Old Court Road and Reisterstown Road and managed to capture footage of the moments leading up to the collision, which involved the bus running a red light and striking a white SUV.

Emergency response efforts were robust, with 15 ambulances, including units from Howard and Anne Arundel counties, dispatched to the scene. Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) was also called to address downed power lines.

In addition to the bus, seven other vehicles were involved in the incident. Fire officials reported that extrication was necessary for both a critically injured passenger on the bus and another individual trapped in a car.

As a result of the crash, Reisterstown Road has been closed in both directions between Old Court Road and McHenry Avenue, creating significant traffic disruptions. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes while the area remains closed for emergency operations.

Governor Wes Moore expressed his concern for those affected, stating that his administration is closely monitoring the situation and is grateful for the swift actions of first responders. Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the coordinated emergency response and urging residents to allow space for emergency crews.

This incident is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
