Essex Resident Admits Guilt in Child Sexual Abuse Case

A 67-year-old man from Essex, Maryland, has entered a guilty plea in connection with serious child sex abuse offenses. Luis Esteban Borunda faces multiple charges, including sexual exploitation of a child, coercion and enticement of a minor, as well as distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to court documents, Borunda's criminal activities involved engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old, which he recorded using his cell phone. His interactions with the minor reportedly began in July 2023 through Snapchat and text messaging. Subsequently, he traveled to California, where he met with the minor and committed the offenses.

In a further development, Borunda communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a female minor in August 2023. He continued these communications until his arrest on August 30, 2023, when he arrived at a predetermined location to meet what he believed was an underage girl for sexual purposes.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Borunda possessed devices containing child sexual abuse material. He now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, with the possibility of up to 30 years in federal prison for his crimes against the minor.
