HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A civilian aircraft was intercepted by an F-16 fighter jet on Saturday afternoon after it breached a Temporary Flight Restriction, as reported by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
Temporary Flight Restrictions are implemented to control airspace during specific events, such as natural disasters, sporting events, or situations involving national security.
NORAD confirmed that the civilian plane was safely guided to a nearby airport while under the surveillance of military aircraft. The organization advises that pilots of general aviation aircraft should switch to frequencies 121.5 or 243.0 and alter their course immediately if intercepted by NORAD aircraft.
