Authorities reported that an 85-year-old woman lost her life in a car accident that occurred in Odenton on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. when a 62-year-old woman driving a Lexus SUV southbound on Piney Orchard Parkway veered into the northbound lane while navigating a curve near Ransom Drive.

This resulted in a head-on collision with a Hyundai Tucson, which was being driven by an 85-year-old man. The deceased, identified as Amelia Knuckey, was a passenger in the Tucson.

Emergency responders pronounced Knuckey dead at the scene. Both drivers involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals, where they were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators from the Anne Arundel County Police Department are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The identities of the drivers have not yet been disclosed.

According to state data, there have been 11 fatal accidents in Anne Arundel County this year, compared to 30 recorded in the previous year.
