FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Tuesday that the agency successfully intervened in a plot aimed at last Sunday’s UFC event hosted on the White House lawn. This high-profile gathering was attended by President Donald Trump and numerous dignitaries from the government.
Patel revealed that the threat was identified on June 10, just four days prior to the event, which also attracted thousands of invited guests and UFC fans who gathered to watch on large screens in the National Mall area.
“While the result represented the best of investigative work, it was also nothing out of the ordinary for this law enforcement team,” Patel stated. “We are built to detect, respond to and bring to justice those who threaten the lives of American citizens, particularly during large gatherings like the historic UFC 250 fight.” He expressed gratitude to the agents and partners involved in the operation, emphasizing that their work is ongoing and updates will be provided as appropriate.
In preparation for the event, officials dedicated months to transforming the White House grounds into a secure venue, a process that reportedly incurred costs of $60 million. Patel confirmed that multiple arrests were made in connection with the plot, although he did not disclose the specific charges against the individuals apprehended.
