Fells Point Business Owners Concerned Over Lack of Police Citations After Rowdy Weekend

Business owners in Fells Point are voicing their concerns after the Baltimore Police Department released arrest and citation statistics from a recent weekend that saw significant disorder in the historic district.

According to the police report, the Entertainment District Unit did not make any arrests, including those involving juveniles. Additionally, no citations were issued for illegal alcohol sales, raising eyebrows among local business owners.

Only two citations were reported: one for a liquor law violation and another for disorderly conduct near Broadway Square. Patrick Russell, owner of Koopers Tavern and Slainte, expressed his disbelief, stating, "There were 500 open containers, so it's ridiculous. It's absurd that no one was arrested based on the videos we saw. That's crazy." Russell's comments reflect a broader frustration among business owners regarding the handling of large, unruly crowds.

Images shared by local proprietors depicted numerous empty liquor bottles on the streets and pouches allegedly used for selling alcohol, highlighting the chaos that unfolded. Concerns were also raised about the presence of juveniles in violation of the city-mandated curfew.

This week, FOX45 News sought answers from Mayor Brandon Scott regarding enforcement and safety measures in Fells Point. Scott acknowledged the concerns, stating, "We take those concerns very seriously." He emphasized the importance of police action beyond just issuing citations, noting that officers are also focused on dispersing illegal activities.

Inquiries were made to the Baltimore Police about potential changes to the Entertainment District Unit's approach in light of the recent events, but specific adjustments were not detailed.
