BALTIMORE — The Baltimore City Fire Department responded to a fire incident involving two lifeboats on the USNS Charles L. Gilliland in the Canton Industrial Area on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 2000 block of S. Clinton Street shortly after 11 a.m. on July 13, following reports of a fire in the vicinity.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that both lifeboats were engulfed in flames while docked on the Patapsco River.

In response to the situation, a second-alarm was issued to ensure adequate resources were available to manage the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities.

The Baltimore City Fire Department emphasized its commitment to enhancing training for firefighters and command officers specifically for maritime incidents, highlighting the importance of safety for both personnel and the Port of Baltimore.
