Fire Caused by Lithium-Ion Charger Results in $25,000 Damage

RISING SUN, Md. — A fire sparked by a lithium-ion battery charger led to significant damage at a property in Cecil County on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 7:47 PM in the 500 block of Conowingo Road. The property owner was charging a power tool when the fire broke out shortly thereafter.

According to the Maryland Fire Marshal, the owner heard a loud bang within ten minutes of starting the charger and soon discovered flames engulfing the shed.

Efforts to douse the flames with a garden hose were unsuccessful, and the fire spread to a nearby recreational vehicle and boat.

Fire crews arrived and managed to bring the blaze under control within approximately 15 minutes. However, the fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damages before it was contained.
