Fire Displaces Family in Port Deposit Trailer Park

PORT DEPOSIT, Md. — A family of four was displaced from their home in the Homestead Trailer Park after a fire erupted on Sunday evening. The incident began when the homeowner discovered flames in a storage room adjacent to her bedroom.

Roger Richards, a neighbor, heard a loud noise that he initially thought was someone tampering with vehicles. Upon investigating, he witnessed the family emerging from the trailer in distress.

The homeowner reported that she heard a strange noise coming from her air conditioner, followed by the circuit panel igniting and flames rapidly spreading up the wall and into the ceiling. In an attempt to control the blaze, her 18-year-old son utilized a small fire extinguisher, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

While the fire caused significant damage, the water used to extinguish the flames resulted in further loss, totaling an estimated $50,000 in property damage.

Fortunately, the situation could have been much worse without the quick actions of neighbors. Margaret Aldrich, another resident of the park, assisted by rescuing the family’s young daughter, while Richards helped the family exit the home safely.

Emergency services arrived shortly after the family was evacuated, but the fire left the family without a home or belongings.
