Flight Instructor Dies After Jumping from Plane During Student Lesson

A tragic incident occurred in Toledo, Argentina, when a flight instructor jumped from a moving plane, leaving his student pilot to land the aircraft alone.

The instructor, identified as 42-year-old Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, was found deceased after the event on Saturday, as confirmed by the local public prosecutor's office on Tuesday.

During the flight, 22-year-old student Rosario reported that Bertazzo instructed her to continue flying before he removed his headset and seatbelt, opened the door, and exited the aircraft.

Eduardo Álvarez, the director of the Flying Parrot Córdoba school where Bertazzo was employed, stated that there were no indications that the instructor was contemplating such an action. Earlier that day, Bertazzo had completed a flight with another student.

Álvarez expressed disbelief at the incident, noting the complexity of human behavior. He described Bertazzo as a kind individual with a warm smile, emphasizing the shock felt by those who knew him.

Opening the door of a flying plane is a challenging task, comparable to trying to open a car door at high speed, according to Álvarez. Despite the distressing situation, Rosario successfully landed the Cessna 150 without any damage to the aircraft.

Bertazzo was a seasoned pilot, having previously instructed in Chile, and his death has prompted an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident.
