Free Things to Do in Baltimore

You do not need to spend a dime to have a great day in Baltimore. From world-class museums to waterfront promenades and free festivals, Charm City is packed with things to do that cost nothing. Here are some of the best.

Walk the waterfront

The Waterfront Promenade stretches more than seven miles around the harbor, connecting Fells Point, Harbor East, the Inner Harbor and Federal Hill. It is the best free way to see the city from the water, and every neighborhood it passes through has its own character — explore them on our neighborhoods guide.

Museums that are always free

  • The Walters Art Museum — centuries of art, from ancient Egypt to the 19th century, free every day.
  • Baltimore Museum of Art — home to the largest public Matisse collection in the world, admission free.
  • The George Peabody Library — a breathtaking cathedral of books in Mount Vernon.

Parks and green space

Pack a picnic for Patterson Park, hike the trails of the Gwynns Falls, or catch a sunset at Federal Hill Park with a skyline view. Druid Hill Park even has a free disc-golf course.

Free festivals and markets

From the Baltimore Farmers Market under the JFX to summer concert series and neighborhood block parties, there is almost always something free on the calendar. See what is on this week on our free events page, or browse everything happening on the full calendar.

Window-shop the neighborhoods

Wander the antique shops of Hampden's "The Avenue," browse the markets of Fells Point, or admire the murals across the city. When hunger hits, our Food & Drink guide will point you to a cheap, great bite nearby.
