GoFundMe Established for Man Critically Injured in I-695 Accident

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by the family of a man who was severely injured after being struck by a vehicle on I-695 on Tuesday.

According to Maryland State Police, officers were dispatched to the inner loop of I-695 near Cove Road following reports of a pedestrian involved in a collision.

The victim, referred to as CJ by his loved ones, was reportedly outside his vehicle when the incident occurred. His fiancée, Taylor Schappell, provided details on the GoFundMe page, explaining that CJ's car had broken down and friends were assisting him in loading it onto a trailer at the time of the accident.

Currently in critical condition, CJ has sustained serious injuries including a liver bleed, damage to his spleen, and fractures in both legs and one arm. Schappell noted that he requires two additional surgeries.

“We have a long road ahead of us, and every day is a challenge as we navigate his recovery,” Schappell stated. She highlighted the financial burden of medical bills and daily expenses, emphasizing that she already works four jobs to support them. The funds raised through the GoFundMe will help cover these costs while CJ recovers.

“Your support means the world to us, and anything you can give will help us get through this rough time financially,” she added. “I can't do this without my babe, and your kindness will make a real difference in our lives.”

The investigation into the crash by Maryland State Police is still ongoing.
