Baltimore Police are conducting an investigation into the death of a toddler after he was found unresponsive in a vehicle on Thursday afternoon.
Officers responded to a call regarding an unconscious child in the 6200 block of Greenspring Avenue around 1:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the 1-year-old boy unresponsive.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for further examination to establish the cause of death.
Initial findings from the police investigation suggest that the boy had been left in the car prior to being discovered by his parent.
On the day of the incident, temperatures soared to approximately 95 degrees, coinciding with a Code Orange air quality alert issued for the city due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
The Maryland Department of Health has reported a total of 19 heat-related fatalities this year, with eight occurring in July alone.
