The Maryland attorney general's Independent Investigations Division is looking into a fatal shooting involving Baltimore Police officers that occurred on Tuesday night.
Officers responded to a call reporting a man threatening someone with a gun in the 6800 block of Bank Street in the Eastwood neighborhood around 9:14 p.m. The caller indicated that the suspect had fled the scene on a white bicycle and provided a description.
While searching for the suspect, police located an individual matching the description riding a white bicycle on the 6500 block of Eastern Avenue, close to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. According to preliminary reviews of body camera footage, as officers attempted to detain the man, he fired a handgun, prompting multiple officers to return fire.
Medical assistance was rendered by the officers until emergency medical services arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A handgun was found near the individual.
In a separate incident on Monday, a Baltimore Police officer shot a person wielding a knife during a mental health crisis in Bolton Hill, which is also under investigation.
Additionally, state investigators are looking into a collision that resulted in the death of a minor after a Howard County officer pursued her in an unmarked vehicle.
