Dr. Aziz, who has a diverse background in clinical practice, academic research, and health information technology, will take on this leadership role to advance the hospital's clinical technology strategy.
Previously, Dr. Aziz served as an assistant professor in both pediatrics and general internal medicine at Johns Hopkins. He is currently a practicing neonatologist at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and is also associated with the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Dr. Aziz obtained his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2013. He completed his pediatric residency at Jacobi Medical Center in New York and later pursued a fellowship in neonatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, finishing in 2020. His recent work has involved leading initiatives to integrate electronic health records with clinical decision support tools, along with publishing research focused on predictive analytics and the adoption of digital health technologies.
In his new role as CMIO, Dr. Aziz will be responsible for overseeing Johns Hopkins’ clinical technology initiatives, emphasizing interoperability and the integration of artificial intelligence. He will also work on expanding precision medicine programs, particularly those centered around genomics.
Hospital officials expressed confidence in Dr. Aziz's unique combination of clinical and technical expertise, stating that his leadership will be instrumental in leveraging data and technology to enhance patient outcomes.
