Authorities arrested two parents in Overlea after they allegedly kidnapped their children during a supervised visit at a Chuck E. Cheese in Warwick, Rhode Island. The incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when Sahaira Villanueva, 38, and Alexandro Legreat, 30, left the restaurant with their 6-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son without notifying the supervising caseworker.
According to police reports, the couple drove a 2026 white Nissan Altima with Florida license plates and headed south towards Maryland. Warwick Police alerted Baltimore County officials about the vehicle's location as it traveled along Route 43.
Authorities conducted silent surveillance, confirming the Altima was indeed linked to the kidnapping case. As the car approached Earl's Road, Maryland State Police Aviation began to monitor the situation. Villanueva and Legreat were observed moving around inside the vehicle, raising concerns about possible weapons.
Baltimore County police activated their lights and sirens when the Altima, driven by Villanueva, failed to stop. The chase continued as the vehicle entered Gunpowder Falls State Park. Officers anticipated a potential exit route as the park ends at a marina, but the couple turned around in the parking lot, prompting further caution from law enforcement.
After leaving the park, Villanueva drove onto Grace Quarter's Road, where officers deployed stop sticks that successfully deflated two tires on the driver's side. The pursuit continued as the Altima traveled through several intersections, with Villanueva running red lights and driving against traffic.
The chase culminated when the Altima struck a civilian vehicle, causing Villanueva to lose control. Both parents fled the scene on foot, clutching their children. Officers pursued them, and a K9 unit was deployed to assist in the apprehension.
Legreat was bitten by the K9 while resisting arrest, and after a struggle, he was taken into custody. He faces charges of second-degree assault and resisting arrest. Villanueva was arrested without incident and is charged with multiple traffic violations, including reckless driving and failure to obey traffic control devices.
