The former assistant principal of Pikesville High School, Kathryn Albert, has initiated legal action against both the creator of a racist deepfake audio and the Baltimore County Public Schools. The audio, which falsely portrayed her principal making racist and antisemitic remarks, has allegedly damaged her reputation.
The recording was produced by Dazhon Darien, who previously served as the athletic director at the school. In 2024, Darien used artificial intelligence to create a clip that mimicked principal Eric Eiswert, making it sound as though he made derogatory statements about African-American students and Jewish individuals.
In April 2025, Darien accepted an Alford plea, which allows a defendant to maintain their innocence while acknowledging that sufficient evidence exists for a conviction. He was subsequently sentenced to four months in prison for his actions.
Albert's lawsuit contends that Baltimore County Public Schools failed to adequately address the harmful impact of the audio, despite evidence disproving its authenticity. The fake audio was widely disseminated on social media, further compounding the damage to her reputation.
In a related case, Eric Eiswert also filed a lawsuit against the school system and reached a settlement. The controversy surrounding the deepfake audio has raised significant concerns about the implications of technology in perpetuating harmful stereotypes and misinformation.
