Maine Senate Candidate Graham Platner Faces Sexual Assault Allegation

A woman has accused Graham Platner, a candidate for the Maine Senate, of sexual assault, alleging that he forced her to have sex against her will during a drunken incident in 2021.

The accuser, Jenny Racicot, who has previously dated Platner, stated that he entered her home while intoxicated and assaulted her after she told him to stop. Following the incident, Racicot severed all ties with Platner, asserting that the encounter was not consensual.

In response to the allegations, Platner has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the accusations are categorically false. He expressed his intention to reflect on the implications of the situation for his campaign in a video posted on social media.

“Regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting but mindful of the political reality it will inflict, we’re taking the time to reflect on the best path forward,” Platner stated.

As of Monday, he has canceled several planned town hall events in Maine amid the controversy. The Associated Press reached out to Platner’s campaign for further comments, but no response has been provided yet.
