Marilyn Mosby, the former State’s Attorney for Baltimore, was found guilty on Tuesday of making false statements on a mortgage application for one of her two luxury vacation homes in Florida.
The jury reached a split verdict in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Maryland, where Mosby faced two counts related to the loan application process. She was convicted of falsifying information regarding a $5,000 gift from her husband intended for a condominium in Longboat Key, Florida.
However, the jury acquitted her of similar charges concerning her purchase of a second property in Kissimmee, Florida, located near Orlando.
Federal prosecutors argued that Mosby, a seasoned attorney who served as Baltimore’s State’s Attorney from 2015 to 2023, knowingly misled lenders to secure financing. They portrayed her as a calculated individual who took advantage of her position.
In contrast, Mosby’s defense team claimed that she was inexperienced in real estate transactions and had relied on advice from family and professionals throughout the buying process. They maintained that she acted in good faith.
The jury deliberated for over seven hours before reaching their decision.
