Marvin James Leaves City Hall for Martin-Lauer Associates

Marvin James, who has played a key role in Baltimore's city government, has announced his departure from the Mayor's Office to join Martin-Lauer Associates, a prominent political consulting firm based in Baltimore. His new position as an equity partner takes effect on July 1.

James, a 38-year-old Baltimore native, has dedicated seven years to public service, including his recent role as a senior advisor to Mayor Brandon M. Scott. In a recent interview, he expressed enthusiasm about the opportunities ahead while reflecting on his time in city government.

“Martin-Lauer is one of the preeminent political consulting and fundraising firms in the country, and I’m excited to take the skills I have acquired in my years with the City of Baltimore to my new position,” he stated. James began considering a move to the private sector earlier this year.

Founded in 1991 by Colleen Martin-Lauer, the firm has built a strong reputation for aiding Democratic candidates in Maryland and providing compliance and fundraising services to non-profit organizations.

James believes that his experience working closely with elected officials and their communities will be invaluable in his new role. He emphasized the importance of the relationships he has established during his tenure in city government.

Despite facing recent criticism, James remains committed to supporting Mayor Scott’s initiatives, particularly in addressing crime and enhancing public safety. He expressed concern that some attacks against him may be part of a broader effort to undermine the mayor's achievements.

“There are those in Baltimore who want to change the public’s perception about the Mayor, especially regarding his innovative approaches to reducing crime,” James said. He highlighted the mayor's commitment to collaborating with organizations that engage with communities often overlooked by traditional power structures.

In a statement, Mayor Scott praised James for his contributions to the city, acknowledging his role in various successes and challenges faced during the administration. “I am deeply proud of Marvin and excited for this next chapter in his work on behalf of our city,” Scott said.
