Maryland is bracing for another day of unsettled weather as thunderstorms are forecasted for Wednesday afternoon and evening. This follows a tumultuous night of severe storms that left many residents without power and disrupted air travel across the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a marginal outlook for severe weather in Central Maryland, indicating that while storms may develop, they are not expected to reach the intensity seen on Tuesday. Samantha Timmers, a meteorologist with the Baltimore/Washington office of the weather service, stated that the incoming front will likely be less severe than the previous day's storms.
“We are in the thick of these summertime afternoon thunderstorms,” Timmers noted, advising residents to stay informed about the weather and to have multiple means of receiving alerts to ensure safety.
Tuesday’s storms caused significant disruptions, resulting in thousands of power outages and stranding travelers at local airports. Flight tracking service FlightAware reported that nearly 150 flights at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport were canceled, with additional cancellations affecting over 500 flights at airports in the Washington, D.C. area.
As of Wednesday morning, cancellations continued, with more than 50 flights grounded at Dulles International and Reagan National airports, alongside seven at BWI Airport.
