Two women, Vanessa Tjongarero-Henderson, 29, and her girlfriend Samantha Raebel, 36, were arrested in Ohio after being on the run for several months in connection with the murder of Tjongarero-Henderson's mother, 67-year-old Hilde Henderson. The incident occurred on May 22 at her residence in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she suffered fatal blunt force trauma.
The couple had fled nearly 500 miles to Genoa, Ohio, where they were taken in by a local woman, Adrienne Behrman, who was unaware of their criminal background. Behrman, moved by their claims of homelessness and a toxic living situation in Maryland, offered them shelter on her sofa bed.
However, their situation took a turn when Tjongarero-Henderson requested cigarettes and attempted to reimburse Behrman through Cash App. Behrman, unfamiliar with the platform, asked a friend to facilitate the transaction. When her friend entered Tjongarero-Henderson's name into Google, they discovered that both women were wanted for murder.
Behrman, alarmed by her findings, contacted law enforcement while ensuring her own safety. Police responded swiftly, arriving in multiple vehicles and apprehending Raebel first, followed by Tjongarero-Henderson shortly after.
Behrman expressed her disbelief at the situation, reflecting on her interactions with the couple and wondering why they did not harm her. She hopes for justice for the victim’s family, stating, "I just hope that the family and friends who knew the mother can have some peace." As of now, both women remain in custody in Ohio, with extradition proceedings pending.
