McElderry Park Achieves 403 Days Free of Homicides

BALTIMORE — A significant milestone has been reached in East Baltimore as the Safe Streets McElderry Park catchment area has recorded 403 consecutive days without a homicide.

This achievement was announced by Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE), and LifeBridge Health Center for Hope. The last homicide in the area occurred on June 19, 2025.

This marks the second occasion that the McElderry Park site has surpassed a full year without a homicide. Mayor Scott emphasized the importance of community-driven solutions in addressing violence, stating, “Safe Streets McElderry Park going over 365 days without a homicide is a testament to what is possible when we put those closest to the pain in our communities at the heart of our solutions to prevent and intervene in violence.”

City officials noted that the path to this achievement involved over 358 successful mediations and the organization of 29 community events aimed at promoting anti-violence initiatives and providing resources to local residents.

In the past year, Safe Streets violence interrupters have intervened in more than 1,752 potentially violent situations across all ten Safe Streets locations. As of this year, there have already been 780 successful mediations reported.

The success of the Safe Streets program is attributed to its messengers, who have deep connections to the communities they serve. These individuals play a crucial role in reshaping the community's perspective on gun violence.

Safe Streets is based on the Cure Violence model for violence intervention, which focuses on community engagement and proactive measures to reduce violence.
