Middle River Residents Endure Extended Power Outages Over Weekend

Residents of Biscayne Bay Village in Middle River, Maryland, are grappling with the aftermath of ongoing power outages that began Friday night and continued into the weekend. The disruptions have left many without refrigeration, leading to spoiled food and uncomfortable living conditions, particularly affecting elderly residents and families on fixed incomes.

Louis Woodliff, a local resident, reported that the outages started late Friday and persisted into Saturday morning. On Monday, he awoke to find the power still out. "When I got up this morning, there was no power and I'm thinking, what the hell?" Woodliff recounted. He noted that his refrigerator and freezer were no longer functioning, resulting in wasted food, including ice cream that had to be discarded.

Another resident, Tim, highlighted the challenges faced by elderly neighbors during this crisis. He observed elderly residents struggling to cope without power, with one woman named Miss Deb expressing her difficulty in managing basic needs like showering and eating.

Just before a journalist's arrival, power was restored to the community, earlier than expected. Residents had received a message from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) indicating that power would not be back until 11 p.m. on Monday night.

Looking ahead, Woodliff is preparing for more storms and is taking precautions by charging his solar lights. Neighbor Anderson, who has four children home for the summer, expressed uncertainty about purchasing groceries, fearing they might spoil again if power outages continue.

Despite the challenges, residents are hopeful that the power will remain stable as new storms approach. BGE has stated they are not aware of any specific issues affecting Biscayne Bay Village.
