Minor Injuries Reported After School Bus Crashes into Parkville Building

Three individuals, including one child, sustained minor injuries when a school bus transporting students from the Maryland School for the Blind crashed into a building in Parkville on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Harford Road near Taylor Avenue, prompting the Baltimore County Police to close the road following the collision. According to Travis Francis, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Fire Department, the bus driver and one child were transported to a local hospital, along with another adult present at the scene.

Two additional children from the bus and eight other individuals received treatment on-site but declined further medical transport.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with one local bakery employee, Carrie Shelley, recalling a loud crash that shook the building. Shelley rushed outside to assist and saw the bus had crashed through the windows of a neighboring structure. She described a terrified child who was among the first to exit the bus, along with two other middle school-aged children, one of whom was in a wheelchair.

Emily Dolch, who works nearby, reported that the impact was so strong it felt like an earthquake. She heard that the bus might have been forced off the road by another vehicle.

In an account from Kylee Michael, a Perry Hall resident, she recounted feeling multiple impacts while stopped at a red light, only to find a school bus and a black sedan involved in the crash. The driver of the sedan was seen distressed and requested to use Michael’s phone to contact her fiancé.

The school bus is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools fleet and was transporting students from the Maryland School for the Blind, which serves over 200 students with visual impairments and other disabilities. Marlo Jacobson, the school's director of advancement, stated that an administrator was present at the scene to support students and communicate with their families.

The incident follows a recent bus crash in Pikesville involving a Maryland Transit Administration vehicle, which resulted in injuries to over 30 individuals.
