MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Authorities have confirmed the recovery of a 16-year-old male swimmer who went missing in the Potomac River on Thursday.

The boy's body was located at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, following extensive search efforts by the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service (MCFRS).

According to fire officials, the teenager entered the river near Sandy Landing and Great Falls Park at around 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, after which he was reported missing.

Search crews found the body south of Sandy Landing during routine operations in the area where he was last seen. The remains have been sent to the medical examiner for further investigation.

Officials indicated that the identity of the deceased and the cause of death will be disclosed by the Montgomery County Police Department at a later time.

This incident follows another tragic event that occurred just three weeks prior, when Towson University student Nazir Bell was also recovered from the Potomac River.
