ABERDEEN, Md. — A 23-year-old woman has been taken into custody and charged with child neglect after authorities discovered her two young daughters left unattended in their home.
Aberdeen Police responded to a report concerning two children, ages 3 and 5, who were found alone in an apartment located on Northeast Road. Upon entering the residence, officers observed that the living conditions were both unsafe and unsanitary.
The mother, identified as Kahliyah Gooding, was located at her place of employment and subsequently arrested. Police reports indicate that Gooding acknowledged leaving her children unsupervised due to financial constraints that prevented her from affording daycare services.
The children have since been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services for their safety and well-being.
This incident follows a prior case in which Gooding pleaded guilty to two counts of child neglect earlier in the month. In that case, she received a sentence of five years, with all but two days suspended.
Currently, Gooding is being held without bond, and a bail review hearing is set to take place on Friday afternoon.
