CALLAWAY, Md. — A mother from Maryland has been taken into custody following her admission of locking her 4-year-old child inside a closet for hours each day.
On July 20, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call that reported suspected child abuse at a residence on Roh Ranch Lane in Callaway. Upon their arrival, the deputies were granted access to the home, where they discovered the young child locked inside a closet secured with a bungee cord.
The condition of the closet was described as deplorable, lacking any working light and containing no edible food, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office.
In addition to the 4-year-old, four other children were found living in the home with their mother, 28-year-old Kaylynn Nicole Moore, and her boyfriend, 27-year-old James Earl Stone.
Moore informed the deputies that the child was confined to the closet for around 12 hours each day. Stone admitted to using the bungee cord to secure the closet door.
The other children residing in the home were evaluated and did not require medical attention. Both Moore and Stone now face charges of child abuse as well as seven counts of neglect.
