PIKESVILLE, Md. — An evening crash involving a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus resulted in injuries to 36 individuals on July 8. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Reisterstown Road, where the bus collided with several vehicles and ultimately crashed into a FedEx Office building.
According to Baltimore County Police, a total of 12 vehicles were involved in the accident, including one car that overturned. The bus reportedly crossed the median before striking multiple structures, as captured in surveillance footage.
Among the injured, the bus driver was reported to be in critical condition. Witnesses described a scene of chaos, with bystanders rushing to assist and call for medical help amid the wreckage.
“It was so spread out from here all the way down. So many cars, so many pedestrians, so many people,” remarked Arie Glazer, the owner of a local business. “People came out of the bus. Everybody was asking for a medic, and you didn't know who to help first.”
A shock trauma team was dispatched to the scene, and crews from Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) were also called to address downed power lines in the area. Cleanup efforts began the following day, with crews working to stabilize the damaged FedEx building.
One nearby business owner noted that a salon sign may have prevented the bus from crashing directly into her establishment.
Governor Wes Moore stated that his administration is closely monitoring the situation and expressed gratitude to first responders for their efforts.
As investigations continue, Baltimore County Police have yet to provide updates regarding fault determination, the extent of injuries, or potential arrests.
