MTA Bus Crash in Pikesville Injures Over 30 in Series of Collisions

An MTA bus was involved in a serious accident on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville on Wednesday evening, resulting in injuries to over 30 individuals. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of the busy thoroughfare, where the bus collided with several vehicles before crashing into a FedEx store.

According to Baltimore County Fire Chief Joseph W. Dixon, the scene resembled a "war scene," with cars scattered across the road and debris strewn about. More than 100 first responders were dispatched to the site, which was closed to traffic due to the wreckage and downed power lines.

One person was reported to be in critical condition, while the majority of injuries were deemed minor. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Witness Ayo Akinduro described seeing the bus and another vehicle collide while traveling southbound on Reisterstown Road. He recalled the bus and car hitting each other before veering into his lane, resulting in his airbags deploying. Akinduro's passenger was taken to a hospital, but he chose to remain at the scene.

Another witness, Allen Stamper, was outside a nearby Walgreens when he heard a loud crash. He observed a white SUV that had been rear-ended and saw the chaos unfold as people fled the area. His coworker, Augustine Ojun, also reported hearing the crash and screams as the bus collided with the building.

Shirnique Butler, who was arriving at the FedEx location, witnessed the bus hit a telephone pole before crashing into the structure. She noted that the bus driver was trapped for about 35 minutes, during which time emergency personnel worked to rescue him.

Emergency responders called for additional medical support, including a medical evacuation helicopter. Maryland Governor Wes Moore expressed his concern for those affected and praised first responders for their swift actions.

Fire officials indicated that the crash involved approximately a dozen vehicles, with debris scattered from the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Old Court Road to McHenry Avenue. The bus sustained significant damage, losing its front windshield and becoming lodged against the FedEx building, which suffered structural damage.

Baltimore Gas and Electric was also contacted to address the downed power lines complicating rescue efforts. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and MTA representatives have not yet provided a comment.
