The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is taking steps to facilitate voter access during the upcoming election. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the MTA will offer free rides across its core transit services, including buses, metro subway, light rail, and mobility transportation.
Polls in Maryland will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the MTA aims to remove transportation costs as a barrier for residents wishing to cast their votes.
Holly Arnold, the Maryland Transit Administrator, emphasized the importance of accessible voting, stating, "Every citizen who wants to exercise their fundamental right to vote should have easy access to the polls." This initiative marks the first time the MTA has provided complimentary transit services specifically for Election Day.
The free services will encompass the Local Bus system, which includes CityLink, LocalLink, and Express BusLink, as well as the Metro Subway, Light Rail, and the Mobility paratransit system.
Voters planning to utilize MTA services can prepare their trips in advance using the free Transit app or by visiting the MTA's official website. The app offers real-time schedules, predicted arrival times, service alerts, and navigation assistance.
For further assistance, customers can reach out to the Transit Information Contact Center at 410-539-5000. Certified mobility riders can contact the Mobility Call Center reservation line at 410-764-8181 or through the MTA's online resources.
For those who prefer a personal ride to the polls, a request can be made through a designated Google form.
