MTA Police Seek Public's Help in Locating Suspect from Bus Assault

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a man connected to an aggravated assault that occurred on a LocalLink 29 bus on May 21.

The incident took place around 3:22 p.m. after the suspect boarded the bus in the 1500 block of Joh Avenue. He exited the bus later in the 2500 block of West North Avenue. To aid in the investigation, transit police have released a surveillance image of the individual.

Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the man in the photograph to reach out to Detective Juan Estrada at 410-454-7720. As of now, there are no further details available regarding the victim or whether any charges have been filed.

The MTA's police unit has made these images available from the bus's onboard cameras and is encouraging riders to take a closer look. The agency's Criminal Investigations Unit is accessible for tips and complaints through the MTA Police page.

Concerns over assaults on public transit operators have been rising in Maryland, leading to legislative efforts for stricter penalties. A notable change was the passage of Senate Bill 208 in 2022, which reclassified assaults on public transit operators as felony offenses.

This latest case adds to a series of transit-related incidents in the city, including a recent assault that occurred on a late-night bus on Lombard Street.

Anyone with information regarding the LocalLink 29 incident from May 21 is encouraged to contact the MTA Police Criminal Investigations Unit at 410-454-7720 or utilize the online contact options available on the agency's police page.
