The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is celebrating the holiday season with its annual Holiday Bus, which features festive decorations and complimentary rides for passengers. This beloved tradition marks its 47th year, bringing joy and sweet treats to the Baltimore community.
The Holiday Bus began its routes on December 1 and will continue to operate until December 19, offering free rides on various local bus routes throughout the metropolitan area. Riders can enjoy holiday music and receive a free candy cane during their journey.
In addition to the Holiday Bus, the MTA is introducing a specially decorated light rail train and metro subway car, enhancing the festive spirit across the transit system. The Holiday Bus will also make a special appearance at the 52nd Mayor’s Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 14, at 1 p.m.
On weekdays, the Holiday Bus will run from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on CityLink and LocalLink routes. Passengers can locate the Holiday Bus using the Transit app, which features a sleigh icon for easy identification and provides real-time information on fixed-route services.
“Transit connects people to the places and moments that matter most,” said Holly Arnold, Maryland Transit Administrator. “Transit is the most affordable and safest way to get around this holiday season.”
Additionally, the MTA has set up an updated Train Garden at the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station, located on the Mezzanine Level. This interactive display, created by MTA employee volunteers, has delighted Baltimore residents for decades. Visitors can engage with the display by pushing buttons to animate various features, including a miniature subway train, a racetrack, a fast-food restaurant, and a fire station. This year, the Polar Express has been added to the display, inspired by the beloved book and movie.
The Train Garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until January 2, 2026. The MTA will also host “Sundays with Santa” events at the Train Garden on December 7 and December 14.
