Naked Man Found on Former Columbus Statue Pedestal in Baltimore

BALTIMORE — Passersby on President Street were surprised this morning when a naked man was seen standing on the pedestal of the former Christopher Columbus statue in the Inner Harbor.

Authorities reported that the individual, a 26-year-old male, was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for evaluation. As of now, there has been no indication that he will face any legal charges.

The Columbus statue, which was forcibly removed by protesters six years ago, was later retrieved from the Inner Harbor after being thrown into the water. Currently, the statue has been restored and is located on the grounds of the White House, specifically outside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Plans are underway to replace the Columbus statue with a memorial dedicated to Italian immigrant families. Earlier this week, the Little Italy Neighborhood Association announced that over $200,000 has been raised for the new statue, which is expected to be completed sometime next year.
