A new art exhibit at the Peale Museum aims to honor the memories of victims of police brutality, including Tyrone West, who died in police custody in 2013.
The exhibit, created in collaboration with the West Coalition, showcases various artworks dedicated to West and other individuals affected by police violence.
Tawanda Jones, West's sister, has been a vocal advocate for justice in her brother's case, which remains unresolved as no officers involved were charged. She expressed her emotions about the exhibit, stating, "They might have took them but they'll never take them from our heart; they remain in our hearts, and they speak through their artwork today."
Jones also reflected on her brother's artistic talents, saying, "My brother was an inspiring artist, and to see his artwork around in a gallery right now is very amazing to me."
The exhibit is open to the public and will run until July 26, providing a space for reflection and remembrance of those lost to police brutality.
