New BCPS Superintendent Unveils 100-Day Strategic Plan

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — At a press conference held on Monday, the newly appointed Superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS), Dr. Bill Heiser, presented a comprehensive 100-day plan aimed at improving the local education system.

Dr. Heiser's strategy is built around four main objectives: investing in the school system, boosting student achievement, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering community engagement.

In the initial 30 days, the superintendent plans to evaluate academic performance through site visits and instructional assessments. This information will be instrumental in establishing BCPS's educational standards.

Drawing from his experience as a former principal, Heiser emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that he intends to engage with school leaders and staff to identify areas needing improvement. He also expressed his commitment to addressing staffing concerns, particularly as many experienced educators are nearing retirement.

One of Heiser's primary aims is to enhance transparency and community involvement within the school system. To facilitate this, he will introduce a formal communication protocol designed to respond quickly and effectively to emerging issues.

Heiser plans to kick off his community engagement efforts with a series of “Meet the Superintendent” events at various local schools over the summer, starting with an event scheduled for July 9 at Pine Grove Middle School at 6 p.m.
