BALTIMORE — Students at Dr. Nathan A. Pitts-Ashburton Elementary/Middle School now have a new playground, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and community organizations.
The playground was officially unveiled by Baltimore City Schools, which emphasized that this new space is not just for recreation but also serves as a learning environment.
Dr. Jermaine Dawson, the new CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools, highlighted the educational benefits of play. He stated, "Children don't always learn in the traditional setting; they learn by play. They learn how to interact with each other and develop essential soft skills that are important in the workforce, such as conflict resolution and teamwork."
Dr. Dawson further explained that the playground serves as a venue for children to work together to solve problems, mirroring how adults often collaborate in various settings.
The project was made possible through a partnership among Baltimore City Schools, the Baltimore alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, and KABOOM, an organization dedicated to promoting play for children.
