Officer Injured, Suspect Killed in Baltimore Shooting Incident

BALTIMORE — A shooting incident in Baltimore on Tuesday resulted in the death of a suspect and injuries to a police officer and two women.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., officers from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to a report of a burglary at a residence located in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered gunfire from the suspect, who was inside the home.

One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Fellow officers were able to apply a tourniquet before transporting him to Shock Trauma for medical treatment. Fortunately, the officer is now reported to be in stable condition and has since been discharged from the hospital.

During the incident, a female victim managed to escape by jumping from a window, sustaining injuries in the process. She was taken to the hospital along with another woman who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities indicated that the first woman had been held hostage by the suspect.

In response to the ongoing threat, SWAT officers were deployed to the scene. A sniper ultimately shot and killed the suspect, who had been observed at the window of the home prior to the shooting. A handgun was recovered near the suspect's body.

The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police has stated that all involved members are in good spirits following the incident. The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information, including cell phone or surveillance footage, to reach out to the IID at 410-576-7070 or via email at [email protected].
