BALTIMORE — Officer P. Catalfamo of the Baltimore County Police Department has been discharged from the University of Maryland Medical Center's R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center after being shot earlier this month.
The incident occurred on June 7 when Officer Catalfamo and two colleagues responded to a report of an individual exposing themselves on the Gwynns Falls biking trail. Upon arrival, the officers encountered 38-year-old Shaka Admed Sekuo Kamara Jr., who attempted to flee the scene.
During the confrontation, Kamara shot Officer Catalfamo in the head, leading to a shootout with Officer Catalfamo's partner, Officer Poswiatowsky. In the course of the altercation, Kamara also shot a bystander, who fortunately sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Officer Catalfamo was quickly transported to Shock Trauma, where he remained in critical but stable condition until his release on Wednesday night. His return was marked by a hero's welcome, with fellow first responders saluting and cheering for him as he left the facility.
Shaka Kamara is currently being held without bail and faces charges of attempted murder.
