A tragic kitchen fire in an apartment building on Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia claimed the life of one adult on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:45 PM, prompting a response from Howard County Fire officials after reports of smoke were detected in the area.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the kitchen of one of the apartments and found an adult victim in cardiac arrest. Although emergency responders attempted resuscitation, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The fire was extinguished within approximately ten minutes, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the firefighters.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Howard County Police Department, a standard procedure in cases involving fatalities.
