Anne Arundel County, Md. — The northbound lanes of I-97 have been closed due to pavement buckling attributed to extreme heat conditions.
Authorities received reports of debris on the roadway at approximately 2:48 p.m. on Friday. In response, the State Highway Administration implemented a closure of the affected lanes.
A representative from the State Highway Administration indicated that the closure is expected to last between six to nine hours while emergency repairs are conducted.
Motorists are advised to avoid the northbound section of I-97 and consider using Route 2 as an alternative route. Those currently traveling northbound on I-97 can exit at Benfield Boulevard before reaching the closure and access General Highway.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
