Pikesville Bus Accident Leaves 28 Injured

A bus accident in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, has led to injuries for at least 28 individuals, prompting the Baltimore County Fire Department to classify the incident as a mass casualty event.

The collision involved a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, which struck several vehicles before crashing into a nearby building. Reports indicate that one person is in critical condition following the crash.

According to Jerimiah Moerke, a spokesperson for the MTA, the bus first collided with a Lexus and then a Nissan before finally coming to rest against a structure located at 500 West Franklin Street.

Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, confirmed that the incident was escalated to a level one mass casualty event due to the number of injured individuals. Emergency responders successfully extracted the bus driver from the vehicle, which was lodged into the building, and all injured parties were transported to local hospitals for medical care.

The Baltimore City Fire Department's special rescue operations team conducted an assessment of the four-story apartment building affected by the crash. Fortunately, they determined that the building's support beams remained intact, though the first floor has been temporarily condemned.

Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area as emergency crews continue to work on-site. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with MTA Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors currently present at the scene.
