Pikesville Bus Collision Leaves 28 Injured, One Critical

A serious bus accident occurred in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, on Wednesday night, injuring at least 28 individuals. The incident, which involved a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, was classified as a mass casualty event by the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The crash began when the MTA bus collided with a Lexus and a Nissan before ultimately crashing into a building located at 500 West Franklin Street. One individual is reported to be in critical condition as a result of the incident.

Jerimiah Moerke, a spokesperson for the MTA, confirmed that the bus was part of a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency responders worked diligently to extricate the bus driver from the vehicle, which had become lodged against the building.

Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, noted that the response was escalated to a level one mass casualty incident due to the high number of patients needing assistance. All injured parties were transported to local hospitals for medical care.

Following the crash, the Baltimore City Fire Department's special rescue operations team evaluated the structural integrity of the impacted four-story apartment building. Their assessment revealed that while the building's support beams remained intact, the first floor has been temporarily condemned.

Authorities are advising motorists to steer clear of the area while emergency services continue their operations. An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, involving MTA Police, the Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors.
